Pets are a fundamental part of the lives of many families. Regardless of whether it is a dog, cat, snake, bird, rodent, etc., these animals help many people to feel accompanied at all times, benefiting them, especially from the psychological aspect.
As we know, dogs are the most common species that people acquire as pets. One of the most interesting and desired by many people is the Vizsla dog breed.
The long and exciting history of this canine allows us to know a lot about it. The Vizsla is an affectionate and friendly dog that loves to be together with its owners or its human family members. In addition, it also likes to be around other people and animals.
Now, we have to keep in mind that the Vizsla stands out mainly for its hunting abilities and its high level of physical activity. They are very active and energetic animals that love and need to exercise all the time.
Therefore, it is most advisable that these canines are only acquired or adopted by families or people who have an active lifestyle.
One of the most common doubts that arise around this dog is when they can start running.
Perhaps this question does not seem to be very important but the reality is that there are certain things that must be taken into account, especially from the point of view of the canine’s physical health.
When Can Vizslas Start Running?
As we have said before, Vizslas are dogs with a high level of physical activity that need a lot of training and exercise.
These canines were developed to run, jump, swim, play, or do any other physical activity type. In fact, they can develop destructive behavior if they are left in a house for a long time without doing anything.
The first thing we have to know is that these dogs are very energetic from the moment they are weaned.
That is when they stop feeding on their mother’s breasts. However, we cannot pretend that a Vizsla starts running in the same way that an adult would during this stage.
That is mainly due to the fact that they have not yet fully developed and also due to the lack of exercise to help them strengthen their bones and muscles.
For that reason, it is essential to wait a certain period until they are large enough to start running and do their exercises with greater intensity. Generally, any type of dog, including the Vizsla, will start to become more active and run after 5 to 6 weeks of age.
Between 10 and 12 weeks, your puppy’s bones will be a little more developed, which will allow it to run and play with other puppies and with you most of the day.
That is usually the average time for a Vizsla puppy to start showing the energy level it will have. However, if you want to run with your dog, especially as a racing partner, it may take more than a year.
That is because, during that time, it will need to exercise a lot to properly develop its muscles and strengthen its bones, thus avoiding any type of injury.
Veterinarians recommend waiting between 12 and 14 months of age for the canine since it has already grown enough by that time.
During that time, the bones of your Vizsla will have developed what is necessary to prevent it from having future problems in its hip, which is usually one of the most common conditions suffered by this breed of dog.
Now, if you want your Vizsla to grow up healthy and strong, it is important that you know how to provide the amount of exercise necessary every day since it is a puppy.
How Long Should a Vizsla Exercise per Day?
These dogs love and need a lot of exercise. However, the number of minutes that a canine of this type must exercise will depend on its age. That is due to what we have been mentioning about its growth.
If we give a Vizsla puppy 1 hour of exercise, it is likely that it will suffer some injury since its bones have not developed enough.
You can establish two daily sessions to train your dog. If your Vizsla is 3 months old or younger, then it is recommended that each session be approximately 15 minutes.
In the event that your puppy is between 3 and 6 months old, you can increase the time. In that case, the ideal would be half an hour.
At 9 months of age, your Vizsla will be able to endure 2 daily sessions of 45 minutes each.
