Can French Bulldogs Eat Strawberries?

We cannot take lightly feeding a dog. These animals need to be fed properly to have a happy and healthy life free of health problems.

French Bulldogs are canines that love to overeat. That makes them gain weight quickly and suffer from obesity. For that reason, it is crucial to know the foods that they can eat and those that are not so healthy for them.

Can French Bulldogs Eat Strawberries

As owners of a French Bulldog, it is vital that we know what vegetables, fruits, meats, etc., our canine can eat. In this case, we will focus on the strawberry. Many people often buy this fruit to eat at home and wonder if they can feed it to their French Bulldogs.

Can My French Bulldog Really Eat Strawberries?

French Bulldogs digest food differently than humans. We cannot feed them with any food, which could harm their health. There are foods that are not designed for their digestive system, so you must be careful when adding a certain food to their diet.

Despite the above, French Bulldogs can eat strawberries but not excessively. These fruits are good for their health since they are rich in water, fibre and vitamin C. In addition, they can act as antioxidants which are something very beneficial for the body of these canines.

Although adding this fruit to your canine’s diet is not recommended, we have to remember that any breed loves treats, and strawberries could fulfil that role. Keep in mind that treats should only make up 10% of your French Bulldog’s daily calorie intake.

Keep in mind two important things:

  • Don’t give your French Bulldog too many strawberries in one day.
  • Do not add extra food when you give strawberries. Also, make sure you don’t buy canned strawberries as they contain a lot of sugar.

If you have a French Bulldog puppy, you should be more conservative with the number of treats you give it as its digestive system is not yet fully developed, and certain foods, including strawberries, could cause stomach problems.

If you still want to feed your puppy strawberries, make sure it has no problems eating them before considering them as regular treats. For example, you could give it a strawberry and wait 24 hours to see how it reacts.

Are Strawberries Good for My French Bulldog’s Health?

Strawberries are very healthy fruits for human beings since they contain a good amount of vitamins C and K. In addition, they are fruits that provide a lot of folic acids, potassium, fibre, and manganese.

Keep in mind that their high content of vitamin C, water, fibre, and antioxidants make them great treats for French Bulldogs. If you wish, you can add this fruit to your pet’s diet but make sure that it never exceeds 10% daily.

Some benefits that strawberries offer in French Bulldogs are:

  • Strengthen the canine’s immune system
  • Keep their teeth clean
  • Help control weight
  • Slow down the ageing process

How Should We Give Strawberries to Our French Bulldog?

Unlike other foods, strawberries are not toxic to dogs, so you can feed them to your French Bulldog without any problem. However, you should avoid giving it too many strawberries on a daily basis.

It is important that you know some tips so that your French Bulldog enjoys this delicious fruit:

  • The most advisable thing is to give fresh or frozen strawberries to your French Bulldog.
  • Before giving them to your dog, wash them to remove all dirt.
  • The size of a whole strawberry is not suitable for the mouth of a French Bulldog, so it is essential that you cut them into small pieces. That way, you will prevent your pet from choking.
  • Either in the diet or as a treat, strawberries should represent only 10% of your daily diet.

Taking into account the above, it is not recommended to give your dog strawberries with any addition. Many people mix this fruit with other foods or sweets because they believe that they will not harm the canine, but they are wrong.

You should never give your French Bulldog strawberries with cream, strawberry yoghurt, strawberry cake, or any other sweet prepared with this fruit as it can be very harmful to their health.

As we have said before, the best option is fresh or frozen strawberries. If the days are hot, it is recommended that you feed frozen strawberries as treats during training and exercise sessions.

Can Strawberries Be Dangerous for My French Bulldog?

Theoretically, strawberries shouldn’t pose any danger to French Bulldogs. However, your dog could choke if you did not cut this fruit into small pieces.

In case your French Bulldog has diabetes, take it to the vet to get it checked out. He will tell you whether or not you should feed your pet with this fruit.
